Dubai Municipality has referred the names of 15 cafés to the Department of Economic Development (DED) for legal action, after they violated anti-tobacco laws.

The cafes are likely to shut down, Emarat Al Youm has reported.

The cafés in question have received previous warnings from the municipality to rectify their situations, but they didn’t comply.

Salem Mesmar, Assistant Director-General of Dubai Municipality for Environment, confirmed that the municipality is committed to implementing the executive regulations of the anti-tobacco law against.

He pointed out that the law gave the municipality the powers to manage cafes and obliges them to rectify their situations and comply with the laws.

Marwan Al Mohammad, Director, Public Health said that there are still some cafes violating anti-tobacco laws and within the next few days a new list will be issued.
