Ever heard of a prank gone bad?

Well, Alya Al Qassimi and her family certainly have.

"Last April Fool’s Day, our joke nearly gave my mother-in-law a heart-attack."

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, the Abu Dhabi resident explained how a simple prank by her husband and herself turned against them.

She said: "When I got pregnant, it was a really big deal because my husband and I have been trying to have kids for nearly four years, so our family was very excited and happy for us."

Alya added that although taking part in April Fool’s Day is not within the local traditions, her husband and his friends always pulled pranks on this particular day since they were kids.

This time they both took the joke to an entirely new level.

"He told me April first was approaching so he wanted to play a joke on his mother," she said.

Alya added: "At that time, I was just three months pregnant, so he had an idea, and told me to look sad."

She continued: "So when we went to visit my mother-in-law, she asked about my health, and he told her that we lost our baby."

What happened after that was sheer pandemonium.

"She grabbed her chest and passed out in front of us, it was horrible, everyone went crazy and we immediately called an ambulance."

Alya explained that her mother-in-law was placed under observation at the hospital before she was released.

It was only natural that she and her husband received some heavy backlash from the rest of the family members, as to the extremity of the prank.

"I knew he was going to joke with her, but I didn’t know what he was going to tell her, he just told me to look sad, I am happy she is ok thank God and nothing worse happened that day!"

As to her prank-playing husband, one would expect that such a disturbing response to a joke would discourage him from prompting such jokes in future.

"He is still playing tricks and pranks but not on the elderly anymore." Alya joked.
