Aramex has confirmed a fire broke out at the warehouse facilities of one of its subsidiaries on August 27 in Jebel Ali.
In a statement posted on the Dubai Financial Market website, Aramex confirmed the blaze occurred at InfoFort’s warehousing facilities, which took nearly four days to contain according to sources at the Civil Defence.
The statement read: “On the evening of August 27th, 2014, a fire occurred at one of InfoFort’s warehousing facilities in Jebel Ali, UAE. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the authorities.
“No one was injured in the incident. We are currently assessing the scale of the damage resulting from this incident.”
InfoFort, a wholly owned Aramex company, is a records and information management solution provider in the Middle East.
Aramex further added that Infofort continues its operations and the provision of its services as usual.
Emirates 24|7 had earlier reported that a warehouse fire had broken out in Jebel Ali, which was reported in the early morning hours on Thursday last week.
A source from Civil Defence said at the time: “The fire broke out on Thursday morning and spread across 2-3 warehouses. We were able to contain the blaze before it reached the offices.
“No one was injured in the incident, but due to the integrity of the structure caused by the fire, we were unable to enter the buildings to put out the blaze, so the fire was doused by dropping water over the structure from above.”
The Civil Defence source also added that “pockets of fire were still being put out on Sunday as the paper in the warehouses continued to smoulder, making it difficult to determine the heart of the fire.”
Aramex declined to comment when quizzed on the estimated damage caused by the fire.
