An Asian man living in Qatar has sought Dubai Police help to locate his father who he has never seen since he was born nearly 40 years ago.

The son told the human rights division at Dubai Police that his father, who was a cop, married his mother while visiting her Asian country in 1975 before leaving her and returning to his home in Dubai, adding that his mother was pregnant at that time.

“The man presented documents showing he is the son of the UAE cop…we are now working to locate his father,” Brigadier Mohammed Al Murr, Director of the human rights division, told the Arabic language daily ‘Emarat Al Youm’.

The paper quoted Fatima Al Kindi, head of the social service support at the woman and child protection centre at Dubai Police, as saying the son, identified as ARA, is currently living in Qatar with his mother, her new husband and their children.

She said the son had been in touch with the UAE foreign and interior ministries to help locate his father, adding that the father was around 33-years-old when he married that woman. She said the father had stayed with his wife in her home country for around two weeks before returning to the UAE and officially documenting his marriage.

“The father supported his wife for nearly six months after she told him she was pregnant and that he asked her to name the baby Ahmed if it is a boy and Fatima if it is a girl… the father assured his wife he was working to bring her to the UAE,” she said.

She said all contacts with the father suddenly stopped and that his wife was told by a friend that he died in an accident.

“The woman later married a Qatari man but her son has not stopped looking for his father…he has been in touch with many departments before coming to Dubai Police for help…he presented an old picture of his father in police uniform but it is not very clear and his father’s name Ahmed is quite common in Dubai…we are now working to know his father’s whereabouts and whether he has any family,” she said.
