A 10-month-old UAE girl suffered from blindness after falling off the bed at her home in Dubai but doctors believe she will eventually recover.

Maria was sleeping near her sister on the bed and her mother had just gone to the bathroom when she fell off and hit the ground.

Doctors said the girl suffered from brain injury and bleeding which resulted in the loss of her sight but they reassured the girl’s parents that she would see again.

Her mother said the incident took place mid-Ramadan and that the girl was treated and sent back home two days later.

“She suddenly got worse and I had to take her back to hospital. Doctors have so far performed three surgeries on her and say she will get better,” the mother said, quoted by the Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm.

She said she wants to send her daughter to Germany for treatment but doctors at Rashid Hospital insist they can treat her and there is no need to send her abroad.

The paper quoted Rashid Hospital officials as saying Maria’s condition has now stabilised and that doctors are doing their best to treat her.

“We will soon issue a final medical report about her condition. The mother is in touch with health authorities as she insists on sending her daughter abroad, but this will depend on the report,” a hospital source said.
