Ras Al Khaimah authorities fined a local restaurant Dh100,000 and shut it down indefinitely for selling bad food to Dubai’s International Village.

The Arabic language daily Al Khaleej said its reporter was with the RAK police and municipality inspectors during a raid of the restaurant, where they found a large quantity of expired foodstuffs used in sandwiches supplied daily to the Village.

“The amounts seized included more than 900 sausages, 260kg of canned beef, 20kg of cheese and a large quantity of pickles… They were all found to have expired,” the Shrajah-based Arabic language daily said.

It said that the restaurant staff members use back doors while the front doors are to prepare hundreds of sandwiches and send them to the International Village.

“This is the biggest fine to be imposed in the emirate against a food outlet,” the paper said, quoting Khalifa Maktoum, head of the public health section at the municipality.
