Dubai Customs inspectors recently foiled a bid to smuggle 1.57 kg of Crystal narcotics, which is prohibited internationally.

The haul was brought in by a passenger coming to Dubai International Airport from an African country.

A female Customs inspector suspected the floor of a piece of baggage due to lumpiness. On being opened, secret pockets were found that contained foil-wrapped packages with brown duct tape concealing a white substance that looked like Crystal narcotics and weighed 785gm and 786gm.

During interrogation, the passenger claimed he had received the baggage and did not know what was inside. He said he was to deliver it to some people in an Asian country, according to Ali Al Mugahwi, Director of Airport Operations at Dubai Customs.

Al Mugahwi said the passenger and the seizure were transferred to the General Department of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police.

He stressed the vigilance of Dubai Customs inspectors enables them to foil any smuggling attempt of prohibited items.

Al Mugahwi said Crystal contains methamphetamine that activates the nerve system and has many forms such as ice cubes or glass. It can be consumed in cigarettes or pipes, dissolved in water and injected and can be grinded, inhaled or swallowed.
