Friends and colleagues of an Indian customer service agent in the car wash section of an Enoc/Eppco petrol station in Jebel Ali Gardens, Dubai, who died of stroke and brain haemorrhage recently, are shocked at the recurrence of a similar death of another colleague after just three months.

Jayananda Ballangudel, 42, from the south Indian state of Karnataka, was ready to take the shuttle bus from the Al Qouz staff accommodation to his place of work in front of Ibn Battuta Mall, when he suddenly collapsed and became unconscious. He was kept on life support system at Rashid Hospital. Two surgeries were done but he went into coma and finally succumbed to brain haemorrhage after 10 days. A colleague said he could have died in the bus itself.

According to officials, Jayananda joined the retail team on December 1, 2004, and died on June 3, 2014. His dead body has been sent home.

Emirates 24|7 had earlier reported that Faiyaz Ahmed, 28, from Belgaum in Karnataka, another Enoc/Eppco employee at a fuel pump in Al Wasl, died on March 11, about 10 days after he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Rashid Hospital. Read: Struck down at 28: Pump attendant dies of stroke.

Faiyaz, who was a cashier in a convenience store, had collapsed in the accommodation’s toilet and died of brain haemorrhage.

Petrol pump employees say they often work under great pressure and their blood pressure goes up in the intense summer heat.

“Jayananda had returned from vacation and was getting back to normal life when this happened. After the first surgery, he was confident of recovering and told me everything will be allright. But his condition deteriorated, ending in death,” said Laxman, his brother.

“We are all sad that Jayananda’s story was a repetition of that of Faiyaz,” said a colleague of the deceased.

“We were just recovering from Faiyaz’s death, when a second person from the same accommodation died, also of brain haemorrhage. Now we are trying to raise funds to help Jayananda’s family. Each employee living in the Eppco/Enoc accommodation in Al Qouz is donating for his family,” said another colleague.

“Jayananda was a diligent customer sales agent and team mate for the past 10 years. Our heartfelt sympathies go to his family in India. Keep him and his grieving family in your thoughts and prayers at this time. May the departed soul rest in peace and may God give courage to his bereaved family to bear this great loss,” said a mourning note displayed at various fuel outlets.
