Brake issues: Dodge, Jeep recall in UAE

Chrysler Group Middle East has announced the recall of certain Dodge and Jeep vehicles due to technical faults with the brake system.

In coordination with the Ministry of Economy’s Department of Consumer Protection, the carmaker has recalled Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango manufactured between 2011 and 2014.

Chrysler Group Middle East said the brake booster on the affected vehicles may prematurely corrode. If perforation of the brake booster shell (due to corrosion) occurs, the brake booster may ingest water during vehicle operation in wet weather conditions.

The brake booster that has experienced water ingestion may have the brake function compromised if the water inside the brake booster freezes.

The driver may require additional force to apply the brakes during sub-freezing conditions. An unexpected additional brake pedal application force requirement could slow the driver’s brake application reaction time, it said.

The company asked Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango owners in the UAE to take their vehicles to its authorised distributors – Trading Enterprises in Dubai and Western Motors in Abu Dhabi – to have their vehicles repaired.
