One of the rescuers, identified as Salim Ali Al-Khenzori, 27-years-old, who works for Abu Dhabi Police, said that he and his 30-year-old friend Zaid Ali Al-Shehhi, were in RAK for a race, but missed the start of the event and decided to head towards the coast for hiking, jogging and swimming.

He said when they reached the area they found five children swimming in a very dangerous spot, where even professionals do not swim.

We heard shouts and cries of distress and found the children crying for help, as the waves swept them away from the coast.

He added we rushed to help them and found a man Sami Mohammed Ghardagha, they were his children.

We formed  a rescuing team and saved the children within 10 minutes and called the ambulance to transfer them to the hospital.

He added that the rescue operation required great effort because of the strength of the waves and the distance from the coast the children were.
