Breast cancer campaign in October

Jewellery chain Joyalukkas is organising ‘Joyalukkas Think Pink’ campaign this month, for the fifth consecutive year, to spread awareness on breast cancer.

With the slogan, ‘Check it, Beat it’, the campaign aims to spread awareness not only among women but also men. Reportedly, 231,840 new cases of breast cancer was seen in woman in 2015, while 2,350 cases were reported among men.

This year, Aster DM Healthcare is joining hands with Joyalukkas in helping reach the campaign across the masses.

“Women need to ensure they are in good health in order to ensure their families stay healthy. This year, we have Aster DM Healthcare supporting our initiative,” said. Sonia John Paul, Director, Joyalukkas Group.

“There are 2.6 million breast cancer survivors in the world, and every 1.7 minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide,” said Dr. Keya Shivadey, Specialist - Gynecologist, Aster.

Alisha Moopen, Director, Aster DM Healthcare, said. “Awareness and education are key to protecting women from cancer. We have dedicated staff during October to conduct free check-ups, consultations and seminars.”

Aster will give 45 per cent discount to breast cancer tests. A wellness card issued as part of the campaign will help participants avail self-examination training by an expert at any Aster Medical Centre and Hospital. A diamond voucher worth Dh250 is also included with the package.

Since last four years, over 200 organisations have joined Joyalukkas Think Pink campaign, touching about 500,000 lives.

This year, too, the initiative will include radio programmes and road shows. Free vouchers and booklets will be distributed across the UAE. Also orientation programmes are planned across universities, schools, and offices.
