A British surgeon who was accused of inappropriate public behaviour over an indecent gesture - flipping his middle - spent two weeks in jail before bail, and has now been acquitted by the Dubai Misdemeanours Court on Monday.

Arabic daily 'Al Bayan' reported that the 41-year-old Brit who was on a private visit to the UAE was returning to Dubai after delivering a lecture in Abu Dhabi when the incident happened.

As he was passing through Al Aweer area, where the roads were narrow, his car came very close to another vehicle driven by a young Arab man. They exchanged a few words and went their separate ways.

However, the surgeon was surprised to receive a call from cops the following day informing him of being charged with 'misconduct in a public place '.

He was subsequently arrested and jailed for two weeks before being granted bail.

His lawyer said the surgeon was acquitted on lack of clear evidence.
