Some light bulbs manufactured by Philips are faulty and can give you an electric shock. These bulbs have been sold in the UAE and now the company is recalling them due to safety reasons.

“In co-ordination with the Ministry of Economy – Consumer Protection Department and in line with the keenness of the Ministry of Economy to conduct an ongoing review of all the products in the UAE and provide the customer with the required protection, Philips in the UAE announces a recall campaign for the MASTER LEDbulb D12-60W E27 and B22,” the company said in a safety announcement.

A small number of the above mentioned bulbs, manufactured in China, do not meet the quality requirements in the UAE. The issue concerns a potential current leakage which could result in the lamp housing to become live, and when touched, provide an electric shock.

“Philips places great value on the performance of its products and has decided to recall and replace the affected lamps in the market. The lamps in question are the 12Watt version of the MASTER LEDbulb D12-60W E27 and B22 produced in the last quarter of 2012. No other versions are affected,” read the company statement.

Customers can identify the affected lamps by two numbers - its product code number and the production date. Both numbers can be found on the lamp. The product code number is 9290001824 and 9290001825 and the production date code is 2K, 2L, 2M.

Only lamps with both numbers corresponding may present the defect and should not be used again but to be sent back to Philips for replacement. When checking the numbers do not touch the lamp in use but first switch off the power, wait for the lamp to cool down and then take out the map from the luminaire, advises the company.
