There has been a late night fire in a Bur Dubai building in the second such incident in Dubai this week.

Civil Defence officials told 'Emirates24|7' that no one was injured in the fire that started around 10.30pm at the New Mankhool building in Bur Dubai.

The incident sent shock waves across the area as more than 100 residents of the New Mankhool building were seen running out of the building following the fire.

“The Civil Defence team immediately rushed to the spot following the incident. We have managed to put off the fire. No one has been injured,” said one official.

According to those living in the building the fire started from an apartment in the second floor of the four-floored building.

“It was probably a gas leak in the kitchen of apartment number 205. A few girls shared the apartment. None of them were there at the time of the incident,” said one of the neighbours.

According to Shazia who lives next door, the whole floor and the building was filled with smoke. "Naturally everyone was panicking. The fire alarms went off, but people also started knocking on neighbours’ doors to alert them. Within a few minutes all the residents had assembled down,” she said.

“We just gathered whatever we could and rushed down. Some women just rushed out with their children half asleep. Thankfully the building just has four floors, which made it a lot more easier,” said another tenant.

Khurshid from Sunrise Real Estate had a different take on the fire. “The tenants were inside the house and cooking. The fire was caused accidentally when there was an oil spill. It could have been easily contained at the initial stage itself. The tenants however rushed out of the apartment and the fire spread,” he said.

The civil defence team arrived at the spot within five minutes. And the fire was controlled by around 12pm.
