Cabbie jailed for raping passenger

A Pakistani taxi driver will serve five years behind bars for raping a British woman passenger in his cab after driving her to her villa in the Springs.

The 48-year-old driver will be deported later, ruled the Court of First Instance on Tuesday.

He is accused of imposing himself on the woman taking advantage of the fact that she was intoxicated on March 5 last year.

A policeman at the Jebel Ali Police Station testified that at about 5am the station received information about a rape incident in Springs 3.

"When we reached there the woman was already with her parents waiting for us,” he said.

The 25-year-old victim told the cops that she hailed the cab from a bar. On reaching her destination, she asked the driver to wait as she had to collect money from her mother. But the door was locked and no one answered. So she returned and asked the dirver's mobile to place a call to her mom. When she got no reply, she asked the driver to come back the next day and collect the fare.

"But I was surprised as the driver got off his seat and jumped on me." She alleged that the man raped her and then sped away.

She said that she was intoxicated. Initital evidences showed no bruises on her body but her jeans was worn in the reverse.

The cabbie was found in normal state at the time of arrest. He claimed that he had sex with the woman upon her own demand and that she seduced him by taking off her clothes.

Lab reports confirm the act. The woman had an alcohol quantity of 142-227 mg/dl in her blood on that day.
