Car hits Dubai Tram in JBR; service resumes soon

A car cashed into the Dubai Tram in the Jumeira Beach Residence (JBR) neighbourhood around 8pm on Wednesday, after it crossed the red light.

It is reported the accident led to a 15-minute delay in services.

No casualties was reported.

An eyewitness tweeted on the accident, saying: "Looks like we’ve had another car vs tram incident in #jbr tonight; delays surely expected – it’s gonna delay my quiz! #uaetraffic #dubaitram."

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) tweeted from its official handle: "Minor accident between Dubai Tram and a vehicle that crossed a red light in JBR. No injuries were sustained."

Hours later, the RTA tweeted posters highlighting the Dubai Tram rules and safety guidelines.

"For your safety, please respect the #DubaiTram rules and regulations."

The offences

Causing an accident leading to death will incur penalty of up to Dh30,000 plus withdrawal of driving license for up to a year.

Causing an accident leading to bodily injury will incur fine of up to Dh15,000 plus withdrawal of driving license for up to six months.

Driving through the red light without causing an accident will incur penalty of up to Dh5,000 plus withdrawal of driving license for up to three months.
