Car registration in just 3 minutes in Abu Dhabi

Drivers loathing waiting for hours in big lines to have their car registration renewed can now say goodbye to their ordeal. A new ATM-machine introduced by Abu Dhabi’s traffic police allows them to have done in just three minutes.

The machine, to be deployed in key shopping malls in the emirate, also allows motorists to pay their traffic fine in just a tick of a button with having to go to the traffic police department and face armies of customers.

“It is the first machine of its kind in the Middle East….it will provide three services—payment of fines, renewal of car registration and replacement of lost registration cards,” the Arabic language daily Al-Bayan said, quoting Lt Ali Nassir Al Baihouni of the information technology division at Abu Dhabi police.

“Drivers can now have their car registered in just three minutes without having to wait for hours in big queues at police sections and car testing centres.”

He said results of tested cars would be saved in that machine and that drivers would have only to insert their national ID card to have the registration renewed. As for fines, they can be paid by credit card in just moments, he added.

Baihouni said his department has decided to call the machine “Sahl”, an Arabic for easy, given its simple ways in fine payment and registration procedures.
