The Attorney-General of Abu Dhabi, Ali Mohammed Abdullah Al Balushi, has issued a decision establishing a specialised section for the child within family prosecution in the context of societal and legal responsibility of the public prosecution to protect the rights of children.

The move follows the directives of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department to prepare for the implementation of the child rights law or 'Wadeem' as of mid-June.

Al Balushi said child prosecution aims at developing necessary frameworks and procedures to provide maximum protection for the child from birth until he/she reaches the age of eighteen. He praised the wise vision of Sheikh Mansour on establishing the child prosecution to provide more protection.

Eight-year-old Wadeema was a child who had been tortured and murdered, and her body abandoned in the desert. But her death sparked legislation in her name that aims to protect other children from suffering the same fate.
