Children aged below 15 years must submit a separate passport for having a national identity card as those on their parents’ passports will not be accepted, the Emirates National Identity Authority (Eida) said.

In a statement carried by the semi-official daily Al Ittihad, Eida urged Emirati and expatriate parents to register their children before the end of the deadline on October 1 or they will risk paying a delay fine of Dh20 a day.

“Parents who have their children on their passports must quickly have separate passports for their children in order to register them with the National ID,” it said.

“All Emirati and expatriate parents are urged to go to registration centres and have their children registered now.

“They should not wait until the last moment as this could result in payment of fines.”

Eida said the ID is now a pre-requisite for children to join school following a decision by education authorities that the National ID card must be included among documents submitted by parents to schools.
