Workers managed to tie and hand to the police two Emiratis who got into their accommodation impersonating CID staff and stole their wallets, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Monday.

On Friday April 16, at around 12 noon AGQ, 25 and MSM, 22, allegedly entered the accommodation of two Sri Lankans and an Indian claimed they were CID staff. They asked the three for their ID cards and their wallets while threatening them with a knife.

Raman Amalat 42, Indian, cleaner was coming back from work to his accommodation at Al Jaflia area. As he entered the room, a man walked in behind him wearing sports dress, Raman testified before the prosecution.

As the man started searching the bed and the pillow, Raman asked him about his identity. He said he was a policeman. Raman asked him to show the ID card, and instead the man pulled a knife and pointed it at Raman’s chest. The attacker asked Raman to hand over his wallet.

Raman handed the wallet where he , keeps his ID card. The attacker searched it and found the ID card but continued searching the pockets of Raman and found another wallet where he kept Dh900.

As the attacker was about to leave the room Raman saw another man was threatening his roomate Kinjelsi with a knife outside the room.

Immediately, Raman jumped on the back of his attacker and pulled him down to the ground.

The other victims and some workers who stay in the house, controlled the two and tied them with a rope and called the police.

Kitsiri Kumara, 26, Sri Lankan, cleaner, testified that while he and his friend Siranka were preparing food in the kitchen, they heard a knock on the door.
Opening it, they found two men who claimed to be policemen and asked about someone called Ali.

Kitsiri and Siranka answered that there was nobody with this name in the house, Kitsiri testified before the prosecution.

But one of the men pulled a knife and asked Kitsiri to keep silent while the other man went into the bedroom where some workers were and started stealing their purses.

As Siranka tried to prevent the second attacker from getting into the house, he was pushed towards the wardrobe and got injured and tried to alert his friends about the fake policeman.

Kinjelsi, 45, electrician, Sri Lankan, testified that he saw Raman getting into the house and one of the attackers followed him into his room. As the attacker stepped out of the room, Raman jumped at his back and pulled him down. Then all the men in the house got control of the two and tied them up until the real policemen arrived.

Nasib Abbas, 22, policeman, testified that upon a notification he was rushed to the victims’ house an found the two attackers tied with some jewellery and money on them.

The two accused denied before the Criminal Court the accusation and asked for hearing the testimonies of the four witnesses.

The court adjourned the case for hearing the witnesses until October 25.
