Commuters driving over divider to escape gridlock

Traffic mayhem has erupted across parts of Dubai and Sharjah, with reports coming in that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road is in the midst of a gridlock after an accident earlier in the day, heading towards Jebel Ali.

STSS confirmed an accident in front of Mirdiff City Centre around 8am, tweeting: “There’s a multi-vehicle accident in front of MCC on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Road is blocked. Take diversions - avoid waiting to ‘have a look’.”

Half hour later, the conditions had yet to improve with another commuter tweeting: “Heavy traffic on SMBZR road from Muhaisnah towards Jebel Ali.”

Dubai Police officials are on the scene of the accident, as per reports.

Further down the highway, the Discovery Gardens morning jam saw one resident catch several commuters breaking the law and driving over a barrier in desperation after people have been complaining of sitting in traffic for nearly an hour.

Four cars were caught doing this in a span of five minutes.

Sohail A tweeted a picture of commuters in gridlock in the oncoming traffic lane to beat the jams, saying: “Here’s another reason what causes traffic chaos in Discovery Gardens when one lane turns into two.”

Meanwhile, the Sharjah-Dubai highway has a similar story.
