An Abu Dhabi appeals court annulled a five-year jail sentence against an Emirati who had raped his housemaid several times and decided to send him to a psychiatry centre for treatment, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The unnamed man had forced his family’s Indonesian maid into a rented apartment in the capital and raped her four times a day for three days before he was arrested, the Arabic language daily Al-Bayan said.
“An appeals court decided to cancel the five-year jail sentence against the defendant on the basis of a medical report by a committee entrusted with examining his mental condition,” it said. “The judge ordered the man confined to a psychiatry centre for treatment and rehabilitation.”
