The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance acquitted a Sudanese who was accused with other fugitives of spraying white powder on two Emiratis and snatching an envelope contained $100,000.

MAA, 38, Sudanese, partner was also accused along with fugitives of assaulting Hussain Ibrahim who was holding the envelope while the four were riding a car.

Hussain Ibrahim, 29, purchase officer, testified that on July 4 he received a phone call from the fugitives who told him that he is calling him on behalf of another person. He told him that he has gold jewellery with their invoices.

“The caller offered selling it to me as I would benefit from selling them for higher prices… I advised him to sell them in the gold market instead, but he said he will not get a good price because he is not an Emirati… He kept on calling now and then. At the end it was agreed to buy 2250kgs of gold for $100,000. I withdrew $50,000 from my personal account… and businessman Ahmad Abdullah who agreed to buy the gold with me withdrew the other $50,000.

“On July 11, I called the fugitive and agreed to meet in my house in Abu Dhabi. The two accused came in a taxi and showed a sample of the golden jewellery but we asked him to show the invoices. The fugitive called a person and asked him to bring the invoices to Abu Dhabi. After sometime MAH called the person who was on his way to enquire whereabouts him. The invoice man claimed he has an emergency matter and cannot come. The two asked us to meet in Dubai the next day. So they left the place. On the next day MAH called and said he is waiting for us in Dubai with the invoices with him. At 2.45 we met him behind Al Bustan Centre upon his request. The two accused who arrived by a taxi asked us to move - scared that someone might be watching them with the gold. As I was roaming by car in the area they asked to show the money. We showed them the money to be sure that we are serious buyers. They then asked us to drive back to the meeting point. Upon reaching there the fugitive sprayed a white powder on our faces and the second accused snatched the envelope after beating my hand. As they ran away we found their mobile phones on the street. We took them and called the police,” he testified.

The second victim Ahmad Abdullah, 33, repeated the same testimony.

Corporal Yousef Abdullah testified that from the mobiles police identified the two accused and found out that one of them is still in the country and allocated his residency while the other has fled.
