Court reject father's custody claim for sons

A court in Abu Dhabi has rejected a father’s lawsuit demanding custody of his two children living with his ex-wife, claiming that their school grades had dropped because of neglect by their mother, according to a report in the Arabic daily newspaper Emarat Al Youm.

The mother’s lawyer, Ali Khadr Al Abadi, argued that the father’s claim has no basis in truth. The lawyer said that it is the father who is neglecting his children by not visiting them, though his house is just across the street.

Al Abadi asked the court to dismiss the case and compel the plaintiff to pay legal expenses.

On his part, the prosecutor demanded that the mother drop custody of the plaintiff’s two sons (aged 16 and 11 years).

He pointed out that the elder son skips school without any reason (according to the school report), that he had failed in three subjects during the previous semester, and the youner son is getting low grades.

The court explained that the father could not prove that the mother is the cause of their sons’ low school grades and that his role as a father is to follow up on his sons’ education.
