Daughter who saw JLT tragedy left devastated

Watched her mother jump to death while she held her dying brother's hand; Guard tried to catch falling child...

Pall of gloom did not quite capture the sense of disbelief and sorrow that engulfed MAG214 in Jumeirah Lake Towers.

The residents of the building woke up on Tuesday morning to witness a family destroyed before their eyes – literally.

An Iranian mother (33) and her child died after falling from the window of their 8th floor apartment in MAG214, according to Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director General of Dubai Criminal Investigations Department.

But as the day wore on the feelings of empathy, pity and deep sorrow were with the 14-year old daughter who had to face the tragedy alone – her father was travelling and is expected to return today.

As the police put together the sequence of events that killed the 5-year old and his mother, two tragic figures emerged.

The girl, who, in her school uniform held her brother’s hand while he lay in a pool of blood dying; only then to look up and see her mother jump out of the window as well.

And a security guard of the building. He desperately tried to catch the falling boy.

He injured himself and was rushed to hospital, but was reportedly ridden with guilt over his inability to save the child.

Media reports this morning stated quoted family and friends as saying that father fainted on hearing the news.

The daughter is still in a complete state of shock and disbelief, the reports added.

How it happened
Brigadier Al Mansouri said: "The mother left her five-year old child in the apartment as she accompanied her 14-year old daughter to the school bus. While she was waiting for the bus with her daughter, she was shocked to see her child falling from the window.

"The mother got hysterical ran back up to the apartment where she reportedly couldn't control herself and jumped from the same window and also died on the spot."

Al Mansouri said that the incident occurred at around 7am.

When the mother reached the street in the front of the building, she saw her son looking down from the apartment’s window.

She, and the building’s watchman, shouted at him to go back, but the child leaned forward and fell to his death. The guard tried to catch the falling child, but could not.

The mother couldn’t bear the shock, ran hysterically to the apartment and was crying hard, said neighbours and witnesses.

Brigadier Al Mansouri said, "No one expected this reaction from her, and were surprised when the mother stood in the window and jumping from window after her son. She also died on the spot.”

Eyewitnesses accounts
Eyewitnesses said they heard severe screaming in the morning and rushed outside.

They saw the body of the child in the arms of his elder sister, who was crying; while seeing his mother running hysterically to her apartment and before they realised what happened to the child, they were surprised that the mother had also jumped herself from the apartment.

Al Mansouri has asked parents not to leave children alone in the house, adding that this family moved to this apartment only a month ago.

Being a mother of a 9-month old, i couldn't stop crying hearing about this tragic story. I hope and pray that the Almighty gives the father and daughter peace of mind. I am sure every parent is reminded of how careful they must be handling kids at home and elsewhere.

It's strange that the developer failed to have safety measures in place. A 5 year old kid climbing up a window/balcony is not a joke! Feel heartbroken for the family and the mother, son and daughter - may their souls rest in peace forever. And the daughter attains strength to overcome this trauma.

This story has totally unsettled me. This is really so sad and I believe only prayer can help heal the pain of the father and his daughter. Something they will never be able to recover from but have to maintain faith in God to overcome. We must never take our lives for granted and be grateful to the Lord for each day we share with our loved ones.

What has happened can never be undone. And it should never have happened. Though every family has its own responsibility, the government too should impose rules for the safety and security of its residents. The windows should have had grills. The Ministry of Education should make it mandatory for all schools to teach the dangers of height, fire, electricity, water etc.

It's very shocking and devastating especially for parents or mothers like me, but let's all be reminded not to leave behind our very young children especially in houses/flats with open windows, doors and balconies. Children are children and they don't control their acts. Nevertheless, may both the boy's and the mother's souls rest in peace. And for the father and daughter, may they both move on with strength and grace.

Oh, nothing more tragic than this. As a mother of two who always get scary thoughts of this kind, I can understand the agony of this unfortunate mother. May all those in any kind of problem realize how small their suffering is. Ya Rab give them place in Jannah and patience to the innocent girl. I wish I could do something for her. Ministry of Education should make it mandatory for all schools to teach the dangers of height, fire, electricity, water etc.

Since reading this story, I burst into tears every few hours. I cannot even imagine the agony that the father and daughter are going through. May the Almighty give them strength and grant the deceased a place in Heaven as they too went through a very difficult end.

I don't have the strength to say any thing, I feel my hands are shaking, as I heard the news. I couldn't stop crying, I just pray for the guilty & shocked mother's soul to rest in peace, she didn't know what was she doing, its obvious she acted mindless & with no control power, I just pray for the 14 years old & the father to be strong & accept this tragedy. GIVE THEM POWER YA ALLAH, JUST GIVE THEM POWER TO BE STRONG.
