Do you simply crave that new-car smell? Are you just fed up with the maintenance problems of your old wheels? Is your car just going to drop dead any day now?

Whatever your reason/s may be, if your mind and heart is set on trading your old car for a brand new one, Emirates 24|7 can help you narrow down your list.

Here, we take a look at some mid-size sedans for those with a budget range of between Dh70,000 and Dh95,000.

Hyundai Sonata 2015 (starting from Dh65,900)

Koreans cars like Sonata are relatively friendlier on the price front and are less expensive to maintain, making them a preferred choice among many car buyers.

This is one, which can perhaps be one of the best value deals in its segment. “Improved chassis, better aerodynamics and increased interior space make a compelling case,” says Hassan Siddiqi, Business Head at www.yallamotor.com.

Experts at www.automiddleeast.com believe it’s a comfortable and practical family car, but has a rather unappealing exterior.

Nissan Altima 2014 (starting from Dh77,500)

Nissan Altima is one of the most reliable cars in the mid-sized sedan segment. The starting price is Dh77,500 but the top end models can be costlier. According to Siddiqi, it has the best A/C in the segment and great interior material as well. In this region, it enjoys superior resale value as well.

Website www.drivearabia.com lists its swoopy styling, nice cabin materials, legroom, tech features as the pros of this car. However, do consider its unsporting transmission, less rear headroom than competitors if you are deciding on this model.

Mazda 6 2014 (starting from Dh75,750)

Mazda 6 is for those who are looking for a family car but with a style quotient. It’s curvaceous new exterior, confident, sporty driving feel and new active-safety features are its strength that can make it appealing to the buyers.

However, limited backseat space and lack of stronger V-6 or turbo engines are things to be considered.

Chevrolet Malibu 2014 (starting from Dh80,000)

The Malibu 2014 is impressive with its great entertainment and sound system. You kids will love the iPod integration. But it doesn’t score a 10/10 for those looking for speed as the car is not packed with powerful acceleration.

Volkswagen Passat 2014 (starting from Dh86,577)

A German brand under the Dh95,000 category is not easy to get and in fact, the Passat is the only brand from the country to feature in this range.

If you are getting a German brand at this price, don’t expect it to be loaded with features, but Passat scores high on its engineering point, a trademark of all German cars.

“It’s very reliable, though the interior is minimalist and resale value is not the best,” as Siddiqi puts it.

Toyota Camry 2014 (starting from Dh86,900)

The Toyota Camry ranks high in the affordable midsize cars. It’s particularly popular for its gentle ride, fuel efficiency, and spacious interior, as well as the twin attributes of reliability and resale that come with the brand Toyota.

The drive is comfortable, and roomy. Handling is now more responsive, and the interior is nicer, with upgraded materials. Drawbacks include some hard cabin plastics, again something very common with Japanese cars and a high base price. Some experts also claim that the touch-screen radio controls are not very user friendly.

Ford Fusion 2014 (starting from Dh89,000)

There’s been quiet an overhaul at Ford and its cars speak of that. Fusion can be stated as a gorgeous car with sophisticated driving dynamics and impressive technology, again something that is becoming synonymous with all Ford drives.

Even though it’s an impressive car, you should also consider its less space than its rivals. Technology can complicate too. For example, its multimedia can baffle some.

Honda Accord 2015 (starting from Dh91,000)

Another Japanese favourite is the Honda Accord and a hit among those who want their drive to be smart yet frugal.

The 2015 model comes refreshed with a number of changes. The 2.4-litre version features a slightly more powerful engine and a new CVT transmission that improves claimed fuel economy by 7 per cent, says Siddiqi.
