Workers transporting meat on an uncovered trolley which is not made for this purpose have become almost a daily scene at Deira fish and meat market in violation of safety rules, according to a Dubai-based newspaper.

The Arabic language daily 'Emarat Al Youm' on Sunday published what it said was a picture of a market worker transporting meat on a trolley in the open air, saying such an illegal act repeatedly takes place away from the eyes of health authorities.

Although the market supplies meat and fish to thousands of consumers in the city, it suffers from poor control by the municipality and other competent authorities, giving rise to such practices that endanger public health, the paper said.

“The meat transported this way is vulnerable to contamination and will affect the health of consumers.

"We call on the competent authorities to act to stop such practices that involve serious health hazards.

"Authorities must ensure the market is under strict control,” it said.
