A well-known UAE dentist has been selected as the 'Person of the Month' by the Dubai-based Arabic language daily 'Emarat Al Youm', which introduced the unique award in 2012, the paper said on Sunday.

Dr Mohammed Naji won the award for May for his “pioneering” role in humanitarian and charity work in the country and his initiatives to help the children, it said.

The paper said it also took into consideration his latest initiatives to set up a hotline for patients, his support for Dubai’s autistic centre and his “Liberty” charity initiative intended to assist in humanitarian cases and support community initiatives.

It said the award, which is supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Chairman of Dubai Media Inc, was also given to Dr Naji as “one of the unknown soldiers in humanitarian activities and supporters of ill and poor people.”

“The choice of Dr Naji is in recognition of what he has achieved in the field of humanitarian work and his support for charity in the UAE, mainly medical and humanitarian cases through his hotline,” editor-in-chief Sami Al Reyami said.
“He is considered an example for individuals and institutions in the UAE in supporting charity work and contributing to community initiatives.”

Emarat Al Youm, one of the most popular Arabic language newspapers in the region, launched the “person of the month” award at the start of 2012 to honour outstanding people for their role in the society, the first prize of its kind in the country.

The paper is an affiliate of Dubai Media Inc, which also groups Emirates 24|7 and the Al Bayan newspaper.
