The Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) has alerted the financial services community and the public against a scam offering lottery funds up to $3 million (Dh11 million) purportedly released by Du Telecom.

The regulatory authority said the perpetrators use false documents purportedly issued by the DFSA.

Fraudulently using DFSA logo and the names of its chief executives and chairman, the fraudsters offer access to funds up to $3 million, it said.

“The source of the funds is allegedly the ‘DU Telecommunication Company United Arab Emirate for the (9) Nine Years International Anniversary Mobile award’… and require consumers to pay an advance fee for a ‘Fund Release Order’ to gain access to the ‘Emirates Lottery Foundation Promo’ funds,” it said in a statement.

According to the DFSA, no such thing exists within or outside the UAE and it asked public not to get involved in such awards or lotteries.

It alerted the public that the regulatory authority does not approve or authorise any transfers of funds or charge any payment fees in relation to the transfer of funds.

The names of the DFSA Chief Executive and the DFSA Chairman have been used without authority to add legitimacy to the scam, it added.
