Abu Dhabi General Services (Musanada) has signed two contracts for the implementation of the Abu Dhabi-Dubai Road Project, in its first and second phases, with Ghantoot Transport and General Contracting Establishment, Tristar Engineering and Construction, and Abu Dhabi Salini Costruttori SPA.

The signing of the contracts follows the Abu Dhabi Executive Council's approval of awarding the said road project works at an approximate cost of Dh2.138 billion.

Mohammad Khalifa Al Fahed Al Muhairi, Musanada CEO, signed the two contracts with Ali Mohammed, of Ghantoot Transport (for phase1), and Naji Al Harthi of Tristar Engineering (for phase2) at Musanada headquarters, in the presence of a number of officials from both sides.

The length of the new road is 62 km and is an extension to Mohammad bin Zayed St., from Saih Shuaib area, through Al Maha Forest to Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad). It merges with the Sweihan Road (E20). The project will be completed within a span of 30 months from the date of the commencement of work.

Ghantoot Transport will implement the first phase of the project at a cost of Dh1.297 billion, including a 34-km road and three key junctions. It starts in Saih Shuaib area on the borders between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and along with Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed St up to Al Ajban St.

The second phase of Abu Dhabi-Dubai Road, which will be implemented by Tristar Engineering  and Abu Dhabi Salini Costruttori SPA at an approximate cost of Dh840 million, consists of around 28-road and includes three key intersections between Al Ajban St and Al Sweihan Road.

Al Muhairi affirmed that "the signing of Abu Dhabi-Dubai Road implementation contract comes within the framework of the keen interest of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, in maintaining balanced development across the emirate of Abu Dhabi, in integration with development projects witnessed in all cities and regions.

"The signing of the contracts also coincides with the 42nd UAE National Day celebrations."

Al Muhairi also stated that the new Abu Dhabi-Dubai Road Project is one of the biggest and most important projects in Abu Dhabi, and is part of efforts aimed at developing roads infrastructure in the emirate. He noted that the project comes in line with the visionary Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, and the Surface Transport Master Plan (STMP) which is aimed at upgrading the infrastructure of Abu Dhabi transportation network.

Ali Al Haj Al Mehairbi, Executive Director - Buildings and Project Management Services at Musanada, stated that the new road will consist of four lanes in each direction with the possibility of expanding it in the future to up to six lanes in each direction, with six key junctions on the road to serve new residential areas such as Al Falah, as well as e new industrial and economic areas such as Khalifa Port and Kizad.

Al Mehairbi added that the Abu Dhabi-Dubai Road Project involves the construction of a number of bridges to protect services lines, especially gas lines which intersect with the track of the new road. He pointed out that the effort is coordinated with the relevant authorities such as Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), regarding the part of the road extending through KIZAD area, and with Etihad Rail, Transmission '&' Despatch Company (Transco), Traffic Engineering and Road Safety Department at the Directorate of Traffic and Patrol of Abu Dhabi Police, Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (Gasco) and Dolphin Energy.
