The Public Health Division, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, has issued 119 warnings to people caught washing cars in public places, streets and in front of buildings.

Recurrent  violators will be slapped with a fine of Dh500, said Khalifa Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Director of Public Health, Abu Dhabi City Municipality.

“As part of its ongoing campaign to raise public awareness on the issue, the civic body is currently following up all warnings issued to offenders to verify their compliance with the public appearance of the city," he added.

"The campaign reported several unhygienic and disorderly practices of washing cars in streets in a way that distorts the general outlook of the streets and undermines the public health as well as infrastructure projects."

Al Rumaithi called upon all residents to refrain from wasting water by washing cars in public areas. This also  inflicts damage to the infrastructure and results in the accumulation of water in streets and low areas, besides causing subsidence in asphalt roads as a result of water ponds, and providing a breeding ground for mosquitoes and insects, he explained.
