Dh7bn case: Dubai Ruler's Disputes Settlement ensures speedy justice

The total sum of financial claims dealt with by the Disputes Settlement Department of the Court of His Highness the Ruler of Dubai during the past year reached Dh9.5 billion.

Hashim Salem Al Qiwani, Director of the department, revealed this to Emirates 24|7, adding that the value of financial claims ranged between Dh500,000 and Dh1.8 billion, each.

He added that the department especially dealt with high value financial claims, including one case where the amount at stake was Dh7 billion.

The department is also currently considering a case where the pecuniary claim is Dh250 million.

The Ruler’s Disputes Settlement Department received 286 cases from Dubai Courts, Public Prosecution and other judicial bodies in the period May 2015 to May 2016.

These cases varied from real estate, commercial and labour issues, to civil cases and liquidation of partnerships.

Al Qiwani explained that there are 12 experts in the department, with each dealing with 22 cases on average, annually.

He said that the rate of delivery in 2014-2015 was 95 per cent, while in 2015-2016 it has risen to 99 per cent. Currently there are still 131 cases under examination.

He added the department aims to deliver justice and build confidence and credibility in the judiciary.

“The speed of looking into cases helps create a good investment environment, attracting investors,” he said.
