DHA-WHO pact on priority health problems

Dubai Health Authority signed an MoU with World Health Organisation (WHO) at DHA with the aim of promoting joint collaboration and partnership to develop effective and sustainable policies and strategies for the prevention and control of priority health problems in Dubai.
 
The MoU was signed by Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, Director General of Dubai Health Authority and Dr Husain Al Gazairy, Regional Director of WHO/Emro office on behalf of WHO. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr Haifa Madi Director, health protection and promotion at WHO Emro; Laila Al Jasmi, CEO Policy and Strategy sector at DHA, Dr Ali Al Marzooqi, Director Public Health and Safety at DHA, Heba Al Shaar, Director of Institutional Marketing and Communications Department at DHA, Dr Ziad Najjar Senior Public Health Specialist at DHA and Dr Mohammad Badi, Senior Public Health Specialist at DHA.
 
Both parties will strive to enhance joint collaboration, cooperation and partnership for the development of strategies, policies and action plans tackling priority health problems in UAE with emphasis on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
 
Al Murooshid affirmed the importance of such agreement with WHO to maximise the benefits from the international best practices in the area of strategies and development of programmes. He explained that this joint agreement, includes technical support by WHO to DHA to develop and implement national programs for the prevention and control of non communicable diseases including cardiovascular diseases, establishment of NCDs risk factors surveillance system, development of health promotion programmes (including health education and physical education and promotion of health lifestyle), capacity building for DHA staff and development of community participation initiatives.
 
In addition WHO will assist DHA in developing health promotion programs for the prevention of cancers (including cancer registry in Dubai), development of programs for promoting health of youth and adolescent (including life skills programs in schools), women health, injury prevention and control strategies.
 
Dr Al Gazairy confirmed WHO's commitment to the technical support of EMRO which will assist DHA in developing its strategy aiming at prevention and control of priority health problems including NCDs with emphasis on cardiovascular diseases (strokes and myocardial infarction, hypertension), diabetes and cancer in addition to capacity building of DHA staff on strategy development, providing norms and standards, defining of key indicators of priority health problems and their determinants, assessing the current situation, defining appropriate policies, production of up to date Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials, manuals, guides and guidelines.
