Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI), one of the largest Arab media establishments in the region, and the Ministry of Interior have extended a one-year agreement aimed at helping out prisoners jailed in financial cases.

Under the agreement signed in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, the Arabic language daily 'Emarat Al Youm', part of DMI, will undertake a media campaign to highlight the ordeal of indebted inmates and liaise with the Ministry’s Al Faraj (relief) Fund to raise money needed for the release of those prisoners.

The accord stipulates that the campaigns should mainly target humanitarian cases particularly inmates who support their families.

It was signed by Adel Al Rashid and Al Faraj Fund director Colonel Ahmed Saeed Al Badi.

“Renewing this agreement follows the success of media campaigns undertaken over the past year in helping many prisoners and their families,” Badi said.

“We appeal to the public to donate for those inmates for humanitarian reasons and consider the circumstances that had forced them to stay in prison after completing their jail terms.”
