An Egyptian driver is accused of possessing 2,840 tables and 200 capsules of tramadole for promotion purpose, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On June 19, police arrested LKM, 40, driver, following a tip-off about him possessing and selling tramadol to addicts in Naif area, testified Lieutenant Ali Abbas.

At 10.45pm the accused was seen on the fifth floor of a multi-storey parking, so he was searched and arrested. Policemen did not find anything with him, however, 2,840 and 200 capsules were found hidden in the car’s rear box.

He denied having them and claimed that they belonged to IMM. Police arrested IMM who was standing at the gate of the parking building.

IMM said that he had just accompanied LKM. The two were taken to the police station. LKM confessed to receiving the tablets from someone called Ali who is outside the country and that he was selling them to addicts, testified the officer.

Lab test proved IMM, 35, labour supervisor, has taken hashish.

The court adjourned the case for verdict on November 17.
