A mini-bus smashed into a petrol tanker on its way to Dubai late in the night after its Asian driver fell asleep at the wheels because of fatigue, resulting in serious injuries to the driver.

Police said the accident on Sheikh Zayed Road could have caused a disaster had that vehicle hit a part close to the petrol storage area.

The petrol tanker was on its way to Dubai. The bus rammed into its rear  at around 2am, causing damage to both vehicles.

“The bus driver was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

“The tanker was on the right lane when that car rammed into its back after the driver fell asleep because he was apparently too tired,” Dubai Traffic Police Chief Major General Mohammed Al Zafin said.

“The accident could have caused a disaster if the car had hit a part close to the petrol storage area. It could have also resulted in many deaths if that car had been carrying passengers.”

4-year-old boy found in Saudi

Saudi police found a four-year-old boy on the street and wanted to take him home but were surprised he does not know where he lives.
Police said the boy was found sat on the pavement near a pharmacy in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah and that they tried in vain to identify him or locate his home.

Newspapers said police decided to publish the boy’s picture in the hope he would be identified by his family.
