Driving licenses to be revoked for repeated violations on National Day

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police completed its preparations to ensure traffic safety and a streamlined traffic flow during the UAE’s 42nd For this end, it has deployed traffic patrols across all celebration areas in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region to enable all society segments to express their joy on this auspicious national occasion.

Captain Suhail Faraj Al Qubaisi, Traffic Violations and Precedence Acting Branch Manager urged motorists to express their happiness during this occasion with a civilized spirit and avoid traffic violations under the theme: “Let's all celebrate under the Spirit of the Union without committing violations.”

Al Qubaisi called upon motorists to adhere to the celebration conditions set by the directorate:

“Repeated violations during National Day celebrations are an offence punishable by withdrawal of the license. Moreover, a driving license is revoked for motorists who have exceeded the cumulative total of 24 black points.

He added that failure to abide by car decoration guidelines and committing traffic violations on National Day are punishable by a fine of AED 2000 and 12 demerit traffic points. He clarified that a driving license is revoked when the 24 cumulative demerit points are reached.

According to the law, if the limit of 24 black points is reached, the following penalties are applied: the driving license is confiscated for 3 months for the first traffic violation; the driving license is confiscated for 6 months for the second traffic violation; and the driving license is confiscated for a year and is not returned until the driver passes a driving course at one of the accredited driving schools in the state for the third traffic violation.

He reiterated the need to abide by the car decoration guidelines set by the authorities, and published in the media. He also warned against reckless driving that may cause disturbance to the public, blocking roads and disrupting traffic, using celebration sprays and exiting vehicles on highways.

Al Qubaisi continued: “Other serious violations that will not be tolerated on National Day include, distorting front and rear license plates, performing acrobatic stunts, disrupting traffic, and carrying out other practices that spread chaos and disturbance among other motorists.”

He also warned against installing loud horns that cause disturbance and chaos, particularly in residential areas, changing the vehicle’s color and picking up passengers that exceed the number of allowed passengers in the vehicle.
