The drug smugglers thought they could simply drive away.

The Drug Enforcement Administration of Dubai Police put the brakes on that plan.

In what can go down as one of the more innovative methods of smuggling Tramadol in the UAE, Major General Abdul Jalal Mahdi, and Director of DEA in Dubai told Emirates 24|7 that the drugs in the latest case to be busted were hidden in car tyres.

According to Major General Mahdi, the three accused are DOT, aged 24 employee of a commercial complex, LWA, aged 24, employee of a government agency and TMP, aged 33, who has a criminal history.

The three were arrested with a large amount of money and Tramadol pills hidden inside the spare tyre of the car they were driving.

The police received a tip-off that the three were looking to sell the pills to young people celebrating Eid Al Fitr.

The police team arrested the first defendant TMP while he was sitting in the car in front of his house.

He led the police to the other two and a search resulted in the discovery of the money and Tramadol.

Major General Mahdi reminded residents that Tramadol is prohibited in the UAE if not under prescription certified by those responsible for dispensing it.
