The Court of Cassation in Abu Dhabi has heard a case where a person holding the nationality of a European country is charged with six counts as a result of driving under the influence of alcohol, Emarat Al Youm reports.

The accused jumped a red signal, collided with three cars, which resulted in the injury of a woman and was found to be driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance, apart from possession of heroin.

The public prosecutor referred the accused to the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance, with six charges against him, namely, abuse of a narcotic substance - heroin; possession of a narcotic substance for purpose of dealing; drinking alcohol without a licence; damaging vehicles; jumping a red signal and causing injury to a victim; and driving a vehicle on a public road under the influence of alcohol.

The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance sentenced the accused to four years and deportation.

The appeals court in Abu Dhabi turned down a four-year jail sentence.

The appeals court sentenced the unnamed driver to seven months in prison.

The new verdict prompted the prosecutor to appeal with the Court of Cassation but it rejected the appeal and upheld that verdict.
