BlackBerry subscribers can still use the device after the ban is enforced in early October but they should change the settings for its services, according to Du.

A package of alternatives offered by Du to replace the existing BlackBerry services can be applied to the handset after the ban takes effect on October 11, Du’s Executive Vice-President Farid Faraidooni told the semi-official Arabic language daily Alittihad.

“All alternatives offered by Du can work on Blackberry devices so there is no need to replace the handset,” he said.

“BlackBerry handsets will still support SMS, e mail and web browsing after October 11….these services will be available in different technology that will allow subscribers to use the messenger service, e mail and web browsing through WAP…all they have to do is to change the settings to switch to the Push mail service which can include more than one e mail account.”

Faraidooni said user can also benefit from Du’s offer for data transfer for BlackBerry for a monthly fee of Dh100.
