Du offers direct billing for Google Play purchases

UAE telecom operator Du has started offering direct billing to its customers, who purchase apps and games on Google Play Store.

Du customers had to use their registered credit card on Google Play to purchase until Sunday. Prepaid users can now start using their available credit while post-paid users can use their monthly bill cycle to pay for Google Pay purchases.

A statement from Du on Monday said, “Starting today, Du’s customers can charge purchases from Google Play direct to their Du bill without having to use their bank cards online. The process known as direct operator billing, brings greater convenience for consumers making online purchases on their mobile devices.”

Etisalat had launched the service in June last year becoming the first in the Middle East to launch carrier billing for Google Play.

The feature also allows customers to shop from anywhere in the world.

The feature is, however, not yet enabled for any of the purchases made on iTunes – neither on Etisalat nor on Du.

iPhone and iPad users will have to continue using their credit cards or a prepaid iTunes voucher to make purchases.
