EARLIER STORY: 2 die, 2 hurt in Dubai accident

Two people died and two people were moderately injured in a collision between a light vehicle and a heavy one on Sunday on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director of Traffic in Dubai, said that the accident happened at 1am.

Al Zafeen said the light vehicle hit the left side of the back of a truck, spun around and went off the road.

The driver and one of his friends in the light vehicle died on the spot while another of his companions was moderately injured. All three were UAE nationals.

The Asian driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.

A costly fight for two Saudi drivers

Two Saudi drivers who had an argument about road priority were too stubborn that they decided to fight their way through, apparently not realising it will be a costly fight.

The two from the eastern province of Qateef then reported each other to the police, who referred them to court, which decided that both are guilty.

“Each of them told the judge he does not want damages but wants the other to be punished,” the Arabic language daily Sabq said.

“The judge accepted their plea but decided that both should be punished…he sentenced one to four months in jail and 120 lashes and the other to 10 days in prison and ordered him lashed 20 times.”
