Dubai busts drug smuggling to Malaysia

The Dubai Police have foiled three different attempts to smuggle narcotics to Malaysia.

Handled in association with the Malaysian authorities, the three operations netted 16 kilogrammes of narcotics worth Dh4 million in the international drug markets.

In the first case, Dubai Police helped its Malaysian counterparts arrest an Asian man, Mohsin H, at the Kuala Lumpur airport with 966 grammes of crystal met. He had hidden the stuff in his bag.

The second case was unearthed at the Dubai International airport when an African woman identified as Malm transiting on her way from Cameroon to Malaysia was busted. She was found carrying seven litres of crystal meth in liquid form, besides 3.08 kilos of its solid version in her bag.

The third operation saw Dubai Police arresting an Asian identified as Daregan who had hidden 5.829 kilos of the drug in a wooden photo frames.

A direct result of international cooperation in the fight against drugs, the Malaysian authorities have lauded the assistance provided by Dubai Police.

In a letter of appreciation to the UAE Ministry of Interior, Lim Leong, Assistant Director General of the Malaysian Department for International Coordination, lauded the role of Dubai Police. He said it was the information provided by Dubai Police that led to the arrest of the drug smuggler at the Kuala Lumpur airport.

Major General Abdul Jalil Mahdhi Al Asmawi, Director General of the anti-narcotics department of Dubai Police stressed the importance of international treaties to combat drugs in foiling smuggling attempts.
