The organisers of the Dubai Canvas Festival held an event at the Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) today to express their appreciation to the organisations and individuals who contributed to the success of the event.

Certificates were awarded to representatives of the organisations that supported the event as well as volunteers and local artists.

Mona Al Marri, Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO), said: “We express our special gratitude to Dubai Properties’ Jumeirah Beach Residence for the exceptional support they extended to the Festival. Our partnership with JBR helped us create an event that truly brought art to the community by enabling them to engage and interact with the artworks closely in an urban space stretching over two kilometres.

“The organisation of the event was led by a team of young and dynamic Emiratis, and the success of this event shows that young talent in this country will always excel when offered the right opportunities. The event was also an opportunity for young artists in the UAE to interact closely and learn from the renowned global artists that took part in the event.”

Al Marri expressed her thanks to all the individuals and organisations who contributed to the success of the event.

Apart from Jumeirah Beach Residence, organisations whose representatives were awarded certificates included Arabian Radio Network, Kassab Media, Done Events and Octopus. A total of 30 volunteers and five local artists were also awarded certificates.

The winners of Festival’s Instagram competition were announced at the event. Mona Al Marri awarded prizes to the winners.

Timothy John won the first prize of Dh20,000. Elena Kyrnaeva, the second place winner, won Dh15,000 and Khadizha Katsaeva, the third place winner, won Dh10,000.

The competition, announced during the event, invited the public visiting the Festival to post their pictures of artworks exhibited at the event on Instagram.

A dedicated jury panel chose the winners based on the quality, creativity and 3D representation of the pictures. To qualify for entry, all pictures were required to be taken with a mobile phone without being enhanced or edited in any way.

Organised by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office, in cooperation with Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), a renowned destination developed and managed by Dubai Properties (DP), the second annual Dubai Canvas Festival featured over 60 artworks by 30 artists from 14 countries.

The two-week Dubai Canvas Festival took place from March 1 to March 14, 2016.
