Dubai Cares, part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, has announced that it officially launched the 2017 edition of Volunteer Globally as the UAE marks Zayed Humanitarian Day.

Registration for the initiative is now open for members of the UAE community through the UAE Volunteer Platform that was launched last week by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This year’s edition, which is line with the UAE’s "#Year of Giving 2017", will take place between 21st and 28th October and will involve 15 volunteers from the UAE who will travel to the Kailali district in Nepal’s far western region to support the residents in constructing a new school in their community.

All interested volunteers, 21 years of age and above, are encouraged to register by June 28th. Dubai Cares will then shortlist 50 applicants based on the responses provided in the application, with priority given to volunteers who register first. The 50 shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in one-on-one interviews between 17th and 24th July. Following the interview process, Dubai Cares will select the 15 volunteers who will participate in Volunteer Globally 2017 in Nepal.

Commenting on the announcement, Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Cares, said, "The UAE is a substantial contributor to development aid worldwide, owing to the vision of the UAE's forefather, His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who has instilled a set of noble values and taught us well the virtues of giving. This is also due to the strong leadership of our President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid who have committed themselves to continue along the same path."

"We are happy to announce our latest edition of Volunteer Globally on the occasion of Zayed Humanitarian Day. This will be the first Dubai Cares initiative launched through the recently announced UAE Volunteer Platform," added Al Gurg.

Dubai Cares Volunteer Globally is a weeklong mission to build a school in a developing country. The volunteers assist in digging, picking, mixing concrete and making bricks. Volunteers will also be able to immerse themselves into the local culture, meet families, learn local values and build positive perceptions for the local population.
