While Dubai Creek will soon be extended in the westward direction to link with the Arabian Sea, it will see another extension on the eastern side to reach the Meydan area, according to the Meydan Group.

Last week at Cityscape, giant models of the new projects in Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City were presented to the public.

Two major projects in the Meydan area - Meydan Avenue and District Eleven - are currently under way.

A little further, Sobha Hartland is in the making, a project by Sobha Developers.

For two of these districts – Meydan Avenue and Sobha Hartland - an extension of Dubai Creek will change the character of the landscape into a marina community.

In the shadow of The Meydan Hotel, Racecourse and Grandstand, at 4km distance from Dubai Creek, the area previously known as the Diamond Business Park will be transformed into a business, sporting and lifestyle destination called Meydan Avenue.

Although Meydan Group notes that images and content are for illustrative purposes only and may be subject to change, the model shows the penetration of Dubai Canal into the area, reaching as far as the Meydan Hotel.

Retail outlets, the hospitality sector and residences will enjoy views of Dubai canal, claim sales representatives.

“Yes, people will actually be living on the canal,” answered a Meydan Group representative at Cityscape.

A continuous and air conditioned shopping arcade along the Canal Front will be provided.

Although the waterway is another extension of Dubai Creek, it will mean a direct link to the Dubai Canal passing under Sheikh Zayed and through Jumeirah area, and will form one and the same waterway, explains a representative.

The same waterway will run through Sobha Hartland, judging by the models presented.
