A smart screen displaying information about the route taken by Dubai Ferry has been installed in the touristic marine vessel, said the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The service, named 'Nahaam', displays information about the landmarks en route, as well as a route tracker such as in airlines and general information about the ferry service.

“The smart tourist guide Nahaam is a dedicated system displayed on board the Dubai Ferry screens showcasing tourist landmarks of the emirate on the line of the trip using a GPS based display, enriched with promotional information and materials,” explained Yousef Mohammed Al Ali, CEO of the Public Transport Agency (PTA) at the RTA.

“We have branded this initiative as Nahaam; a name of an antique heritage practice once prevailed in the UAE where a person accompanying sailors plying the Arabian Gulf in pearl-fishing trips used to chant heritage songs that inspire, entertain and cheer up pearl fishers relegating the woes and risks associated with their profession. Fishers on turn used to repeat these popular songs after the Nahaam.

The screen installed in the passengers’ cabin displays a short movie about safety tips followed by a pictorial display of key tourist landmarks en route accompanied by an audio commentary.

Information about the scheduled ferry trips and a route map showing the current position of the ferry will be shown along the way, and on return of the ferry other information about Dubai, such as the formation of the UAE federation and Expo 2020 will conclude the video.

Currently four ferry boats are fitted with the Nahaam system.
