A Filipino social worker and migrant rights’ activist died inside the compound of the Philippines Consulate on Tuesday morning, after he fell down reportedly due to a heat stroke.

An official in the Philippines Consulate in Dubai confirmed the death on Tuesday morning and stated that the reasons for his death are being investigated.

Friends of Alex Galano Lapore, 37, who had been working for Migrante International’s UAE Chapter, said they are yet to get full details of his death, but initial information from others who were around at the time Lapore collapsed suggests he fell down due to a heat stroke and was rushed to Al Rashid Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“The Philippines Consulate will issue an official statement about the death. He came to the consulate compound on Tuesday morning and died after falling there,” said the official.

Friends and relatives of the social worker are posting condolence messages on his Facebook page.

Consulate officials checked CCTV footage, which showed Alex entering the premises and collapsing, face down, leading to bleeding and losing consciousness. His medical history is not yet known, but friends said he suffered from hypertension. His Facebook posts said he celebrated his birthday recently, on July 11, and was leading a healthy lifestyle.

“I know Alex for almost five years and we don’t know exactly what happened. He went to the compound and was waiting in the queue for completing a transaction. He had some papers with him and was awaiting his turn when he collapsed and fell down,” Tatskie, a peer at Migrante Rights Group, told ‘Emirates24|7’.
