Dubai helps in Zambia's biggest cocaine haul

The regional director of the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) at the British Embassy, Roy Aflak has commended the cooperation between the agency and the General Department of Anti Narcotics in Dubai on combating trans-borders drug trafficking.

He added that the coordination has contributed to foiling many international drugs smuggling operations.

This letter was received by Major General Abdul Jalil Mahdi Mohammed Al Asmawi, Director General of the General Department for Anti Narcotics at Dubai Police from Roy Aflak about enabling the Zambian authorities in Lusaka on April 10, this year to thwart the largest smuggling of cocaine in its history. The significant information provided by the Dubai Police on the suspects who were arrested in Lusaka. The suspects were Bolivians, a man and a woman, both 31 and unemployed, coming from Sao Paulo in Brazil on their way to Zambia.

The Zambian authorities seized over 13 kg of cocaine based on accurate and valuable information concerning the passengers who passed by the anti narcotics section at the Dubai airport.

The suspects were arrested, while trying to smuggle such a large amount of cocaine in their stomachs and luggage.

Al Asmawi stressed in a statement today the significance of international cooperation in combating the drugs.
