Dubai Airports, the operator of Dubai International and Dubai World Central, today announced that the second runway of Dubai International Airport (DXB), which was lightly damaged in the EK521 crash landing incident yesterday, was re-opened at 5:45pm local time.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, described the re-opening of runway within 29 hours after the accident as a big achievement made possible through cooperation and coordination with all partners, namely the General Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Air Navigation Services and the Engineering Services Department at Dubai Airports.

He noted that it would take 48 hours for the airport to resume normal operations.

Griffiths further praised partners and volunteers for helping in restoring operations back to normal

The airport stopped flights entirely for almost six hours following the accident. It resumed operations at 6:30 p.m. local time Wednesday using only one runway.
